We cannot compete with their national narratives. If they say that Black men are being wooed by 45 in record numbers
and we say ‘not true’, we’re in denial. If we point out his overwhelming white supporters, we’re blame shifting.
And once the story’s out there, the sheep will immediately bleat a response without giving the premise much thought.
It’s because he chose a Black woman VP and we Black men hate that. It’s because 45’s brand of bucking the system appeals to us.
It’s because we’re disenchanted with Obama. In short, they can say whatever they want and we’ll keep falling for the same shtick again and again.
It’s how Chappelle can go on a crack binge in Africa because he balked at their not paying him according to his contract.
How Marissa Alexander, a victim of spousal abuse which put her in the hospital in the past is deemed ‘no Angel’.
Or how a kid, just trying to get home is murdered by a stalker, while the media blames his watching MMA on TV and the hoodie that he wore.
Or how we’re quick to believe the corrupt and corrupted CPD when they charge a gay Black man with first giving himself a beatdown then hiring two workout brothers to do it for a $3,000 check.
We know it’s a lie because two separate eyewitnesses corroborated Jussie’s testimony of his assailants being white.
But then, commonsense tells us that the workout brothers during their 48hr police interrogation were coerced/ tortured into a false confession. Of course, they’re both in the wind.
The goal is to be stronger than we have been, but the way to get there is by admitting how powerful their media’s influence combined with our slavery conditioning is.
It’s like there’s some sort of spell preventing us from seeing the obvious. Either we break the spell or the spell breaks us.
Can’t wait ‘til we have our own media. Everything changes.
