THE ATTICUS FINCH SYNDROME

I love it when white folk succeed!

But I hate when they start spouting that ‘On the merits’, ‘Your own steam’ and ‘Character will out’ nonsense,

as if their promotion didn’t come from a tap on the shoulder or their loan approval was from their sky-high credit score and not their white face.

Or how it’s a cardinal sin if they and their opinions on race and everything else is not lauded as the most astute in the room.

Their white author suggestion for resolving all issues Black is a gem that they insist we do not ignore. Even the term ‘White Privilege’ is a euphemism for the white savagery that mauls our minds and our streets.

I call it the Atticus Finch syndrome; how they need to be deemed the moral center in a racist, immoral world,

demanding that we co-sign on their delusion or face the thunder of their disgust!

How many times do I have to hear how they voted in 2008 and 2012? And like trained seals, we’re supposed to clap again and again ‘Aargh! Aargh!’

Just put it on your tombstone ‘I voted for Obama - twice!’ and call it a day!

And their media will have us convinced that 45 conned a plethora of Black men to his side. Having to answer the idiocy of their thinking again and again.

It’s like how they got upset when a whole bunch of white Republican women didn’t defect because of the misogyny.

The thing that causes a massive migration of white people is race and race alone, whether it be the racial equity of political party stances or gentrification.

And here’s the kicker; if I say that not one of them will open up about how they need to repent, then one invariably will.

Just like when we say that we’ve NEVER seen a white CHILD adopted by a Black family, they’ll example one white kid and put them on the front page for folk like me with the headline:

TIMES...THEY ARE A ‘CHANGING!

Anything to avoid recompense for the HORRORS of the past and present.

If you change your actions because I twist your moral arm, then that’s coercion and you’re just a puppet resenting the pressure and the pressurizer.

But if you change your heart, then you’ll see worlds outside of the spectrum of what they say is ‘right and wrong’ and begin questioning why exactly are we still bombing those Brown people over there again?

It’s like there’s some sort of spell preventing folk from seeing the obvious evil. Either we break the spell or the spell breaks us.

Can’t wait ‘til we have our own media. Everything changes.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PERSUASION AND CONVICTION

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PERSUASION AND CONVICTION Decades ago, in my teens, my oldest brother and I had a talk where I said, “Can you believe that they’re having another gay pride parade?” He told me that he participated in a gay pride parade. Then we just stared at one another - and because many don’t know how to communicate without language, I will translate: Me: (But you’re not gay) Him: (True, but our struggle is their struggle and theirs is ours) Me: (Hmmm. Now I have to rethink everything because this is my brother whom I love challenging my core beliefs). I was persuaded that day. Today, my brother is long dead but I’m still reposting. That’s called CONVICTION.

ON SCAPEGOATING WHITE SAVAGERY

Those who brought their CHILDREN to lynchings dressed in their Sunday best are not ghouls or monsters or any more racist than white folk are today. They’re just people conditioned to do what white savagery tells them is acceptable. And decades from now, they’ll scapegoat the white folk today who ignore the hashtags, refuse to say fire ALL of the white cops from elsewheres, creating the most incarcerating nation on the planet...EVER! All while continuing their 22nd century conditioned evils without a thought of repenting. It’s like there’s some sort of spell...

When white folk dump, we can’t get Angry about it

I got angry over a white (almost white) person saying that I’m overreacting. Immediately afterwards, I berated myself, thinking that I should’ve held my cool. But just as we laud those black heroes who articulate the pain rather than express it, we condemn ourselves for feeling what is normal to feel.  Part of colonization says that I have no right to be angry and that my anger is naturally perceived as a threat so it’s in my best interest to hold my tongue. This is not normal. We must break the economic, physical, emotional and spiritual consequences to be true human beings. Otherwise we’re just lying to ourselves. “How dare they get angry over our oppression of them!”
