Repent!

 After wallowing in white savagery unabated for most of your life, don’t try to be a superhero when someone says 

‘I don’t know about her!’ and confront them with ‘What do you mean by that?!?’

Instead, when you overhear the water cooler racist rant, just start by walking on by instead of gathering around and listening in.

And pray about it. Everything is spiritual. I know that if I were white, being spooned this savagery all of my life, you couldn’t tell me NUTHIN’!

Any opportunity, promotion or career path I missed out on (and there wouldn’t be many, given how smart I am) would be the fault of that one Black woman that the company, bank, school or government was mandated to accept/ employ.

That’s not something that you get over with the switch of a light. And it’s certainly not something you do without help.

And when the help is given, savagery dictates that you condemn the advice if it paints you in less than a stellar light.

Which is why most of your Black friends/coworkers/ employees are won’t to give you the raw skinny on the true state of America and the world 🌍 

There is no upside to it for us. It needs to be done if we’re gonna get through but better someone else take the brunt of your bile 

and I sit back and attempt to mediate between your dissonance and the truth. 

‘I see your point Brett; life is hard for ALL of us and your challenges are very valid. But consider for a moment how you instinctively know that trading places with a person of color would be a bad idea.’

I love to softshoe, but there is no time! And white folk will only tolerate an alternate view once the veil has been completely ripped away!

‘Most of white America is racist and savage, but not you, Brad and Virginia!’

As a christian and as a Black man, I’m compelled to face my misogynoir conditioning in ALL of its ugliness because the mercy payed for by the blood of Jesus drives me to be better!

But in order to be better, half truths and half measures won’t do. I can’t be like ‘Sandra Bland was lynched in prison 

but Marissa Alexander was no Angel and Venus Williams shouldn’t have shown her untouched up backside on that magazine cover!’

Sanity needs to be ALL IN OR GO HOME! But it needs to begin somewhere. When Charles M. Schulz became cognizant that ALL of his beloved characters were white,

he did not want to just add a token character to pander to the times. In fact, it took some convincing of the NEED for a Black character in his strip.

And once he was convinced, conviction followed to enable him to weather the backlash storm that followed.

This is the part of the narrative where I’m supposed to say ‘little by little and bit by bit we’ll get there’, but the truth 

is unless you repent (tear away the veil entirely) you too will all perish along with the slave traders/ rapists / torturers of old.

The standard that The Almighty sets is far higher than the scapegoats we allow. And not seeing that fact does not change the fact in any way.

So work out your salvation with FEAR AND TREMBLING and stop being lulled by the standards of the world, your friends, your church and your media.

There is NO safety in numbers and they will lead you astray. In Christ there is forgiveness, but what’s to be done when your dissonance tells you that you have nothing to be forgiven of?
