PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE:
Planned Obsolescence:
“Prior to 1924, the average lifespan of a light bulb was around 2,500 hours. In December 1924,
a global organization known as the Phoebus Cartel created a secret plan to increase sales by bringing the average bulb’s lifespan down to just 1,000 hours.
This began one of the first known examples of planned obsolescence.“
It’s not just the products designed to break, but our medicines created to no longer to cure but to manage what ails us.
It’s our politics designed to keep our economy and morality barely treading water. It’s our need for perpetual war.
Reminds me of the best scene in the Matrix where AI tells Morpheus that the algorithm was initially a utopia; but we rebelled!
Which brings up the existential reasoning of needing to labor on through life to forget that soon enough we die; thereby not questioning our short existence and delving deeper into its meaning.
Can’t wait ‘til we have our own media. Everything changes.
